In June, I commented on [livejournal.com profile] herecirm's random assignment meme and was given a writing prompt. I then immediately dropped off the face of the earth and haven't written anything since. I swear to you all, I'm not dead or depressed. I have things on my mind, but I just haven't felt the right kind of inspired to write about them. Today, I finally stumbled on a thread to fulfill the writing prompt, so, I am here to bring you my response to "Write about four characters who wouldn't normally be seen together, but by some circumstance have been forced to spend time in each other's company." If you want me to think of some random prompt or somesuch in return, please feel free to comment.

[livejournal.com profile] suraineko, I don't recommend that you read this.

A little back story. Things have been a little rough around here lately. Not horrible, really. Just rough enough to make me introspective. And it's the two year anniversary of Dash's passing and nearly to Samwise's passing too. When I'm introspective, music is heavy on my mind, and one that I always think of when I think about death is Death Cab For Cutie's What Sarah Said. This time, that kicked off a whole little story line.

Without further ado... )

I can't help it! If I were a lemming, I'd be dead by now!

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.

I saw this in [livejournal.com profile] wldhrsjen3's journal and her first answer snagged me, so I'm going to try myself.

What were you doing ten years ago?
I was 17, so I had just finished my junior year in high school. That means I was headed back to Michigan for a Leadership Conference and to see friends I only got to see once a year. I also broke up with my boyfriend of three years because he wanted to get married and I knew we weren't ready, nor would we ever be. It broke his heart. Finally, I had a huge hanovarian I was showing in stadium jumping and I did Trader's Point that summer--badly. But it yielded the best show picture ever!

What are five things on your to-do list for today (not in any particular order):
1. Finish stories for HQ magazine (check)
2. Finish proposal for Elderplan DM (check)
3. Start client info sheets for bloom (so not checked *sigh*)
4. Get out of here by 6 p.m.
5. Ride Doc

What are some snacks you enjoy?
Avocados rock my world, especially made into fresh gaucamole or as a replacement for mayo on sandwhiches. I love ice cream and ramen noodles too. And when Square Donuts show up at the office, I can't resist.

What would you do if you were a billionaire?
Pay off my student loans, invest a lot, buy a farm and build it from the ground up (with an equestrian facility, CSA style farming, and our house). Find one nice show jumper, get a great trainer, and show to the best of our abilities, hopefully grand prix.

What are three of your bad habits?
I am dominate and obstinate.
I don't like to admit I'm wrong.
I am blunt and confrontational.

What are five places where you have lived?
Terre Haute, IN
Greencastle, IN
Indianapolis, IN
Bloomington, IN
Aberdeen, Scotland

What are five jobs you have had?
Horse trainer and riding instructor
newspaper journalist
Ad Agency Copy writer
Retail clerk at a tack store
Warehouse receiving clerk

What five people do you want to tag?
No time for tagging, but feel free to play along.

Rules:

What we have below is the top 106 books most often marked as "unread*" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded.
- bold the ones you've read,
- underline the ones you read for classes (at least once),
- italicize the ones you started but didn't finish,
- * if it's actually on your bookcase and you haven't read it.
- + for the ones that I really want to read but haven't gotten to yet

Your Inner European is Swedish!

Relaxed and peaceful.
You like to kick back and enjoy life.

You know, I am a Scandinavian film fanatic. And their music too.

This is how it works: Comment on this entry and get a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter, including an explanation of what the word means to you and why.

Sarah gave me the letter "N"

New Jersey: Ok, actually, I hate this state. I'm currently suffering major allergies just from being there for four days. But, Susan lives in New Jersey, and I miss her, so I'd visit any time.

Nina: Robin's BIG mare. She's beautiful and fun.

New: There seems to be lots of newness in my life lately. New barn for Sam, new boots, new home (again!), new city (Bloomington here I come), new job, maybe even a new horse.

Nature: I love to be outdoors and in among the natural things of life. Truly, I'd like to be an organic farmer one day.

Navigate: I love to travel and I've got a great sense of direction. Not only to I go to interesting, exotic places, but I often get there by the windyest road!

Newspaper: I used to work for one. I thought I would love it. I didn't. But I did have fun writing the feature stories and meeting all kinds of people and doing all kinds of fun stuff, and covering five different fairs one year!

Nieces: I have 4. Kira, Emma, Ayla, Olivia.

Nephews: I have 2. Alex and Gabe.

November: My birthday is 11/26. Thanksigiving is my favorite holiday because it's usually my birthday and I also get to see most of my family and eat a great meal. I also love the weather at this time of year.

Novice: I teach horseback riding to several novice riders. They are mostly girls between 9 and 13 years old. I love this job and I have fun teaching them three days a week.

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
“Georgia”

What is your favorite album of 8?
God, it’s so hard to pick just one. Probably Meddle.

What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?
“Well, there's things that never will be right I know/And things need changin' everywhere you go/But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right/You'll never see me wear a suit of white.”

How many times have you seen 4 live?
Kind of an ironic question, don’t ya’ think?

What's your favorite song of 7?
“Swallowed in the Sea”. But they did an AWESOME cover of “Ring of Fire”

What is a good memory you have considering the music of 10?
That safe feeling I always found when I could hide away in the workshop for hours doing god only knows what the summer I worked at a camp in Michigan.

Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
No, I can’t really say there is. Though sometimes, in an ironic kind of way, I feel sadness creeping in during “American Girls”

What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?
“It’s been the worst day since yesterday”
“If I ever leave this world alive”
“Somebody told me you were doin’ ok. Somehow I guess they were wrong.”

What is your favorite song by 9?
“Drinkin’ Again”

How did you get in to 3?
I bought a CD thinking it was black crows (because I didn’t used to be good with band names) and then realized it wasn’t. But, I held on to the CD forever until one day I heard a song on the radio and I was like “Huh, that song name sounds familiar.” and low-and-behold, it was from the counting crows cd “Hard Candy” Turns out, I like them a lot.

What was the first song you heard by 1?
“What About Everything”

What is your favorite song by 4?
“The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove”

How many times have you seen 9 live?
I don’t even think she is touring …

What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
My mother’s name is Molly. She is always interested in what things I like, including my music. So, despite the wretched name (in her opinion) she listened to the music and almost liked it. Too bad for the mention of rats.

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
No, but everything on “Piper at the Gates of Dawn” makes me laugh. *grin*

What is your favorite lyric that 3 has sung?
“Got a message in my head/that the papers had all gone/Richard Manuel is dead/And the daylight's coming on”

What is your favorite song of 1?
“The Sea”
