As I'm sure some of you know, I have a thing for anime. Ok, that's actually pretty normal. But I also have a thing for this certain comic book...The Maxx by Sam Keith. It came out in 1993 and shortly thereafter was developed into a cartoon for MTV, which is how I got hooked.

It's a pretty bizarre comic, to be honest. The premise is this "free lance social worker" named Julie has a past she is trying to suppress, so she ends up hiding in this alternate reality called "The Outback." One day, she hits a homeless man and when she tries to cover it up, he somehow gets attached to her alternate reality and transforms into The Maxx. Beyond that, it's really too complicated to explain.

Anyway, tonight when we picked up the truck (yes, she's running well and healthy again. And my checkbook is feeling very UNhealthy), we also visited Half Priced Books (only the best book store EVAR!), which happens to harbor second-hand copies of The Maxx. Needless to say, the comic book stand is the first place I head. Like a kid in a candy store, I carefully leaf through all of the Ms until I find what I'm looking for. And on the rare occasion that I find one that I don't already own...MONEY!

Well, I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me before, but...EBAY! Why in god's name haven't I been looking for these comic books on ebay??? So, we got home and I immediately opened up the computer. In the process, Jeremy wanted to know more about a comic book that could make me act like such a fool, so I showed him everything I could find...which revealed something forgotten and something I never knew.

The Forgotten:

VHS of the original series (Nos. 1-12)! Sweet.

New and Fabulous:

That's right-there's an action figure! *dies*

And lo! I found them ALL on ebay! The action figure, the VHS, and several of the comics. HEAVEN!

But the joys and excitement don't end there. After digging up all that Maxx stuff, I remembered another relic from my past. My favorite board game as a child, the one I played with my big brother for hours, days even, hunched in the basement. Dungeon! A 1980s board game that is like the precursor to role playing games. And you know what?

That's right! I found it on Ebay too.

And let me tell you, I've found them all for pennies (ok, not literally, but you get the idea). Pennies! It's the best way I can think of to end such a miserable, money-eating, truck-in-the-shop-AGAIN day. *grin*
