"Why don't we let stimulus package 1, which seemed like a good idea at the time, have a chance to kick in?"
~President George W. Bush

That, my friends, is what our *fine* American president said to the press in a recent speech in which he also denied that the country was sliding into an economic depression.

You can read the whole article here to see other stupid things he said in the same speech.

I just *love* how the man leading our country can so blatantly ignore the circumstances and continue blithely on his way, wearing rose-colored glasses. Brilliant. Fucking brilliant. The man is ignoring the sage observations of economists. He refuses to acknowledge what the rest of America plainly sees. And he's our president until Jan. 20, 2009. *sigh* Canada looks better and better every day.

for lack of a better word...and unable to decide which is applicable...I'm either flummoxed, or flabbergasted.
But not surprised.

you may have to stay away for a while -the other three (obama, clinton and mccain) scare me more than he does.

At least they all seem to have their own identities.

The problem with elections is that the politicians always win.

"The problem with elections is that the politicians always win"

I think that's the truest thing I've heard regarding the elections.

and so far as their own identities -that's what scares me. A man who is running for president of a country he doesn't even refer to as his "mother country", a conniving bitch, and someone with the mentality of a used car salesman.

I was staying with friends in New York for the first Bush one, I have an early edition paper with the headline "BUSH WINS" and then a later one that said "GORE WINS" - it was pretty cool.

I seem to recall it turned out that Bush won on the one-man one-vote premise, where the man with the vote was in the supreme court.

Considering I have heard of an economic slowdown for a year prior to the last four months, blithely ignoring the problem maybe a bit of an overstatement. As far as the dumb comment, I thought of an analogy. When trying to start a fire with a bit of kindling don't you wait until you find out if it started or not before you through more accelerant on it? just to make sure you don't waste you effort? After all in this case the promise of the kindling is all that has happened, the kindling isn't even in the fire's grubby little hands yet.....patience is a virtue after all

Canada is always pretty....

that is an excedingly good analogy.
Another twist to it woul be that you dont' sprinkle water on a roaring fire to stop it, you dump a bucket full.

I know it would have been better of me to not do so, I turned off the news conference the third time he went "um...the...um." Perhaps unreasonably so, I would think that someone would have coached him better. I do echo what a previous commenter said though, in part: I have yet to be 100% convinced of our potential options for this year. And I probably won't be until conventions are over.
