Something that the commentator here suggested - I don't know enough about the scene to say if she was right or wrong - was that a lot of competitions in the US tend to be marked a little more generously. I don't know if that was dressage specific or not, but they were certainly saying that you could score higher for the same test in the US. That could certainly create more of a false sense of security in the results you are scoring. With teams like Australia and New Zealand most of their competitors are on the European circuit anyway but that might be contributing to the disparity?
